Pagina 3 di 3 The first chapter, Basic Tutorial, is made by 11 lessons for a total of more than 2 hours of video and can be considered a little video-training into the main training, because the user is guided step by step to the creation of a simple DVD with a main menu, two scenes menu and a slideshow, starting from the selection of the template to the final burning of the DVD. All contents used are the graphical templates, buttons and dropzones included in DVD Studio Pro. People who whatched Inside Final Cut Pro training will recognize “The Magic Hour”, the video on which that training was based. In this case users will learn how to create the DVD of “The Magic Hour”.
After whatching this chapter newbie users will be able to create simple but effective DVDs with few mouse clicks. From this point on things start to get more complicated and the chapter Understanding DVD Spec offers a detailed explanation of mpeg2 standard and encoding with Final Cut Pro, Compressor, A.Pack and DVD Studio Pro.
In the Intermediate Tutorial, the largest chapter with more than 4 hours, a new advanced project is created. This time contents are made with Adobe After Effects and Photoshop, and no DVD Studio Pro template is used. The goal is to create a tipical professional DVD with different kind of menu, transitions and subtitles.
The topics covered are animated overlay menus, layered menus, subtitles, button navigation and transition until the finalization of the DVD. All the project and media files of this chapter and the others are included in the DVD. Users who arrive at this point should be able to create a professional product, but with the last chapter, Advanced Tutorial, they can go a step ahead. Unlike the other chapters this one doesn’t cover an entire project creation, but focuses on the most advanced features. We have Stories, multi-angle videos, Alpha Transitions and DVD@ccess features which makes possible the web access when the DVD is played on a computer.
Lessons on DVD Desing Principles are very interesting. They are focused on the basics of DVD design, information handling and color usage to create high quality contents. A special note goes to the lessons on scripting, one of the most difficult topic, but very important to include advanced features in a DVD. In a series of lessons of total 45 minutes Zeth Willie succeed in covering the topic very clearly.
DVD 2, as I’ve mentioned before, is based on the new features of DVD Studio Pro 4. The first part is completely dedicated to HD format, and after an introduction on HD covers topics such as handling HD contents, encoding and making DVD HD and hybrids (SD and HD).
The last chapter is dedicated to the interoperability with the other application of Final Cut Studio. This is one of the improved features of version 4.0. We learn about distributed rendering and Dolby audio encoding in Compressor, with the last lesson on Motion integration, which makes possible to create animated menu very simply working in DVD Studio directly on Motion project files instead of exporting and importing from Motion every time.
Conclusion As with Inside Final Cut Pro and Inside Motion, Inside DVD Studio Pro 4 is an excellent training. It really covers all the topics about DVD Studio very clearly. The organization of the contents with growing difficulty makes it suitable to all kind of users, from the beginner who will start with the Basic tutorial to the advanced who will discover the secrets of scripting in the Advanced tutorial. You can buy Inside DVD Studio Pro on the site, either as a stand alone product at 99$ or included in Inside Final Cut Studio suite, at 299$.
