Sky Sports to use XDCAM equipment on British & Irish Lions Tour
UK-based Gearhouse Broadcast, the broadcast equipment rental and sales company are supplying 2 Sony PDW-530P’s camcorders , 1 Sony PDW-1500 deck, and 2 Sony PDW-V1 mobile decks to Sky Sports for use on the British & Irish Lions Tour, due to kick off in New Zealand on June 4th.
Sky Sports will show the series of eleven matches exclusively live across 9 venues in New Zealand, with the Lions playing a combination of provincial teams and then the New Zealand All Blacks in a series of 3 test matches, with the final being played in Eden Park, Auckland on 9th July.
The XDCAM equipment will be used by Sky Sports Rugby and Sky Sports News in “roving reporter” mode to capture the emotion and comments pitch-side and subsequently to prepare highlights and interview packages to be broadcast back in the UK. This technology format is ideally suited to capturing the interviews and shots for edit packages because it can turn around the programme material very quickly with fast editing times due to its IT based workflow.
Gearhouse Broadcast has to date, invested over £500,000 in this new format, which is revolutionising the production process from acquisition of footage in the field to the post production stage. The professional disc system transfers the footage in 2.5 x the normal speed transfer rate ( MPEG IMX 50mb/s) to a non-linear edit suite.
Gearhouse Broadcast has added a complement of the XDCAM range to it’s rental portfolio including 3 x PDW-530 and 3 x PDW-510 camcorders as well as 3 x PDW-V1 mobile decks and 3 x PDW-1500 compact decks.
